 National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) Research Ethics Committee (REC)

Mission:

National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) Research Ethics Committee (REC) has been established and designated to approve, monitor, and review biomedical and behavioral research involving humans with the aim to protect the rights and welfare of the research subjects. It assures the quality in conducting clinical trials, protects the safety and rights of research subjects, and oversees ethical and regulatory issues related to clinical studies. Due to more and more research projects applied , Research Ethics Committee REC was reorganized as Research Ethics Committee AREC A, Research Ethics Committee BREC Band Research Ethics Committee C REC Cin charge of reviewing different kinds of research projects and were established on 1st , January, 2010.

Goals:

1. To establish ethical policies and regulations for the clinical study approval process at NTUH.

2. To define the extent, content, and essential items of study submission and review process.

3. To review the submitted clinical trial projects, and require modifications or give appropriate recommendations on issues regarding the rights, safety and well-being of human subjects involved in clinical trials.

4. To approve or disapprove the submitted clinical trial projects.

5. To evaluate the safety and feasibility of the submitted clinical trial projects, and regularly monitor the conduction of clinical studies.

6. To ensure sound and comprehensive measures for protection of research subjects.

7. To evaluate, and oversee any ethical issues at NTUH.

  Organization and Personnel

The NTUH REC A, B, C were respectively comprised of 15, 15 and 9 members from diverse backgrounds, including one chairperson, one deputy chairperson,  lawyers, medical doctors, nurses, social workers, and laypeople.

The REC office is organized by one director (Hong-Nerng Ho), one executive secretary (Chun-Fang Tai) and seven assistants( Tao-Sen Lee, Yi-Chun Lai, Shao-Tzu Wang, Ching-ya Lin, Kuan-Hua Chen, Yu-Fang Yen, You-Jhen, Chen). 

 Regular meetings of REC

    The committees convene monthly, and more than half of the members of the REC must be present for each meeting. Ethical approval for research projects is granted if more than half of the attended members are in favor of project approval.
