Subspecialties

The Department of Anesthesiology consists of four divisions and provides perioperative anesthetic management, painless labor, painless endoscopic examination, pain clinics, and pain control consultation.

 

Devision of Ordinary Anesthesiology

Anesthesia provides amnesia, hypnosis, analgesia, and optimal surgical condition to maintain the health and safety during perioperative period. Ordinary anesthesiology consists of regional anesthesia, spinal anesthesia, epidural anesthesia, caudal anesthesia, and general anesthesia. This division provides anesthesia for ordinary surgery, anesthesia for transplantation, anesthesia at remote locations (outside the operation room), painless endoscopic, intensive care, emergent airway management, placement of invasive arterial or venous catheters and devices.

 

Division of Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Pediatric Anesthesiology

This division provides following services for women and children. For women, there are painless labor, anesthesia for Cesarean section, anesthesia for Obstetrics, gynecologic surgery, and anesthesia for breast surgery. For children, there are anesthesia for pediatric cadiac surgery, pediatric general surgery, pediatric neurosurgery, pediatric otorhinolaryngologic surgery, and pediatric dentistry. Besides, there are also sedation /analgesia for invasive or non-incasive pediatric examinations and procedures, such as cardiac catheterizations and MRI examinations. Now, there is a new survice: anesthsia for special need dentistry.

 

Division of Pain Management

This division provides pain clinics, consultations for acute or chronic pain which could not be controlled by ward, cancer pain management (including Port-A catheter implantation), postoperative pain control (including epidural and intravenous patient-control analgesia), and sedation/analgesia in intensive care unit.

 

Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesiology

Cadiovascular and respiratory systems are basic vital systems. This division provides anesthesia for cardiac (including coronary artery surgery, transplantation, valve surgery, etc.), various kinds of vascular (including aortic sugery, vascular stent placement, etc.), and thoracic (including traditional and video-assissted thoracoscopic lung surgery, lung transplantation, bronchial and esophageal, mediastinal, etc.) surgery. This division provides various kinds of invasive cardiovascular and respiratory monitor placement, interpretation and processing, which is not only an important part of the team work for major cardiac and respiratory surgery but also a precise regulation continuing the postoperative care.
