The development of palliative care in Taiwan has been widely recognized internationally and is regarded as leading in Asia. Throughout this progression, the National Taiwan University Hospital palliative care team has made distinguished contributions and consistently maintained a leading position nationwide across clinical services, education, and research.

In response to the nation's growing demand for end-of-life care, and with the aim of further strengthening NTUH's leading role domestically and enhancing its international impact in the field of palliative care, the Hospital has, on this foundation, initiated the establishment of Asia's first Center for Integration of Supportive, Palliative, and Innovative Research & Education.
