Our Goals
Medical tasks are divided amongst our doctors to give patients specialized medical treatment. To usher in the new infrastructure generate by the National Health Insurance, we founded the Department of Integrated Diagnostics and Therapeutics by combining medical units for clinical diagnosis and treatment services such as ultrasound examination and treatment, respiratory function care, endoscopic examinations, diagnosis and treatment, and hemodialysis.

Medical Care and Services
- Division of Ultrasound
Currently, both the Hospital’s Original Building (west campus) and its Main Building (east campus) are equipped with ultrasound examination rooms. Our examinations include thyroid ultrasounds, thoracic ultrasounds, breast ultrasounds, soft tissue ultrasounds, abdominal ultrasounds, renal ultrasounds, and abdominal and soft tissue ultrasounds for pediatric surgery. We provide the best and quickest disease detection and diagnosis with the convenience and high diagnostic rate of ultrasound equipment, plus skillful operation by doctors with specialties ranging from surgery to internal medicine, pediatric medicine, and medical imaging. For instance, we use ultrasound-guided technology to complete aspirations and biopsies for suspicious lesions. The application of such technology helps us find and treat pleural effusions and ascites. We have also seen great leaps in the advancement of percutaneous ethanol injections, electrocauterization, and microwave therapy for liver cancer.
- Division of Endoscopy
In addition to gastroscopies, colonoscopies, enteroscopies, bronchoscopies, endoscopic ultrasounds, and ERCPs, we have put special emphasis on the application of therapeutic endoscopies . Guided by endoscopic ultrasounds, pancreatic tumor or lymph node fine-needle aspiration biopsies (FNABs) can attain a high diagnostic rate. For many years we have also been performing surgeries to excise polyps on the stomach and large intestines, remove stones from the biliary and pancreatic tracts, and remove foreign matter from the esophagus and stomach. For patients with hemophilia, we can administer hemostatic and sclerosing solution injections, and use esophageal variceal ligations, hemoclips, heat probes, and APCs to stop the bleeding. By using percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasties (PTCAs) or stents, we can treat narrowing and jaundice caused by malignant tumors on the gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract and pancreas, greatly improving your quality of life.
With regard to the diagnosis and treatment of early cancer, we hope to increase the diagnosis rate and have better equipment to advance endoscopic treatment in the future.
- Division of Respiratory Diagnosis and Treatment
We are committed to service, instruction, and research, with a special focus on the physiological changes and treatment of respiratory conditions and illnesses. Our division is further split into two groups: Respiratory Therapy and Pulmonary Function.
- Division of Hemodialysis
We were the first in Taiwan to perform a hemodialysis in 1963, pioneering kidney replacements for patients with uremia. Our division is composed of the Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Centers. The Hemodialysis Center provides treatments such as hemodialysis, plasmapheresis, and hemoperfusion.
Functions
In 1993, NTUH made a comprehensive plan to restructure its limited manpower and resources in response to the trend in modern medicine to separate medical tasks and to the National Health Insurance system. We thus established the Department of Integrated Diagnostics and Therapeutics by merging medical units for clinical diagnosis and treatment services such as ultrasound examinations and treatment, respiratory function care, endoscopic examinations, diagnosis and treatment, and hemodialysis.
