The NTUH Ethics Center
The NTUH Ethics Center was established on March 1st, 2023, and is led by a Director, a Deputy Director, and a Section Chief. The center is comprised of three sections: the Research Ethics Section, Clinical Ethics Section, and Research Integrity Section.
Research Ethics Section
In March 1987, our hospital established the “Research Ethics Committee”, which is composed of members with different professional backgrounds to assist in the ethical review of research projects. Currently, our hospital has four research ethics committees: A, B, C, and D. We also have an SOP working group responsible for formulating the operating procedures and review principles of the committee. In addition, there is a conflict of interest review group responsible for reviewing financial conflict of interest cases. The Research Ethics Section of our hospital’s Ethics Center is responsible for assisting the Research Ethics Committee with administrative affairs.
Clinical Ethics Section
In December 2002, our hospital established the “Clinical Ethics Committee”. In September 2004, the committee established a “Working Group”. In August 2012, it was reorganized into two working groups: the “Policy Research and Education Group” and the “Ethics Consultation Group”. The committee and its two working groups are primarily responsible for exploring and resolving clinical ethical dilemmas encountered by colleagues, reviewing living organ donation and transplantation cases, developing ethical policies and guidelines, conducting educational training courses, and accepting clinical ethics case consultations. The Clinical Ethics Section of our hospital’s Ethics Center is responsible for assisting with the administrative affairs of the Clinical Ethics Committee and its working groups.
Research Integrity Section
In February 2018, our hospital established the “Academic Ethics Committee”, which is responsible for reviewing academic research papers for violations of research integrity, such as fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, and other misconduct. The Research Integrity Section of our hospital’s Ethics Center is responsible for assisting with administrative affairs of the Academic Ethics Committee, auditing research cases, and providing education and training courses on research integrity and academic ethics.
