Our center was founded in 1984. It was the first and only hemophilia center at that time in Taiwan. Under the lead of Professor MC Shen, we provided specialized treatments to patients with hemophilia and rare bleeding disorders. When we were founded, there was no factor concentrates available, only fresh frozen plasma or cryoprecipitate can be used to treat patients. Our hemophilia center provided a much more comfortable and convenient place for transfusion than emergency room. In present day, there are several hemophilia centers across Taiwan and much safer and more effective drugs available to improve hemophilia patients’ life quality. Most of bleeding disorders including hemophilia are congenital diseases and many new patients are children or even infants. Hence, hemophilia center of NTUH was moved to first floor of Children Medical Building in 2013 in order to provide comprehensive care to patients with different ages.
