Introduction and Service

     Since 1999, the Division of General Medicine at National Taiwan University Hospital is responsible for the training of primary care and the two-step innovation of medical education. Primary care is a term that is opposite to the specialty care. The former is focusing on the whole health of whole people and the society, including the preventive medicine and the promotion of health. For the purpose of intensifying the basic clinical diagnostic skill of the residents, building the perception of the role of doctor in the era of national health insurance, cooperating to the need of the health system in our country in the future, and carrying out the desirable of whole people care, we are necessary to improve the existing training program for our residents. Hence we should reinforce the training of primary care before receiving the specialty training.
 

Perspectives

     The 21th century will become the age that showing the integration of the clinical medicine and the public health, the combining of medical education and the health service system, the advance of the health of whole people, and the increase of welfare. The combination of clinical medicine and the public health will let the way of maintenance of health changing from disease therapy to disease prevention. The fusion of medical education and the health service system will make more advancement of the promotion of health. The training of primary care in general medicine division will play an important role in the medical education in the future.
