2. To develop the patient-centered treatment planning for comprehensive oral care
3. To promote the skills of patient communication
4. To familiarize with the relevant provisions of the Dental Health Insurance
5. To learn the dental care for the special needs patient
Training Course
Certification of general practice specialist training would only be given to those who complete the requirements stated below. Training course may be extended if needed.
The 2-year program is including:
1.General practice: 1 year
2.Operative dentistry: 2 months
3.Endodontics: 2 months
4.Periodontics: 2 months
5.Prosthodontics : 2months
6.Pediatric Dentistry: 2 months
7.Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: 2 months
Clinical aspect
Each trainee should participate the clinical practice under the guidance of the attending and visiting staffs. All of the training dentists should reach the minimum requirements of treatment with complete data collection of each patient.
The quality of the treatment and service is maintained under the supervision of the attending staff during the training.
Case requirement:
1. Treatment planning of comprehensive oral care: 10 cases
(1) Every case should including Operative dentistry, Endodontic, Periodontal and Prosthodontic, and the trainees should complete at least two kinds of the treatment by his own.
(2) Three cases should with systemic diseases or moderate disabilities
2. Extraction: 10 molars, 5 impactions, 5 with systemic diseases.
3. Operative dentistry: 20 class I cavities, 20 class II cavities, 10 class III cavities, 2 class IV cavities, 10 class V cavities.
4. Root canal treatment: 5 anterior teeth, 8 posterior teeth, 3 molars.
5. Periodontics: 2 phase I therapy, 2 periodontal surgery
6. Prothodontics: 5 crowns, 5 bridges, 2 removable partial denture, 1 complete denture.
Academic Course
In order to enhance the quality of specialist training, the course is designed based on the reference of World’s top dental colleges, which included the basic science knowledge of the clinical general practice.
Moreover, the general practice department of National Taiwan University Hospital is now one of the qualified training centers of Taiwan Academy of General Practice.
