Introduction

The orthodontic clinic is located within the Dental Department of National Taiwan University. There are 4 full-time and 17 part-time instructors to provide clinical service and teaching. Patients receiving orthodontic treatment are taken care of by trainees under supervision and hands-on demonstration by clinical instructors. The postgraduate specialty training will take 3 years. There are about 4-6 trainees per year including residents, graduate students and fellows. Besides clinical training, those trainees, being registered under graduate division National Taiwan University and finishing research project and thesis writing, will be awarded master degrees from Graduate Institute of Clinical Dentistry. 

Each trainee is assigned his / her own patients in the first year of the training program, most of which are expected to be completed by the end of the third year. Instruction is given in the use of various contemporary fixed, removable and functional appliances. Students are taught the important skills of orthodontic diagnosis, treatment planning, implementation of appropriate treatment objectives and mechanics, finishing and retention. Specifics are given for history taking, clinical examination, impression technique and wax bite registration, cast evaluation, cephalometric evaluation, arch analysis, orthodontic diagnosis, treatment plan, and appliance design based on individual cases.

Services

Besides conventional orthodontic treatment, we also offer treatment for transparent aligners, home bleaching, combined cases with miniplates/ miniscrews, full-mouth rehabilitation cases via interdisplinary approaches (Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Orthodonitcs, Pedodontics, Endodontics, Esthetic Dentistry), and surgical correction for dentofacial deformities (either collaborating with plastic surgeon or oral surgeon).
