Emergency Visits

The Department of emergency Medicine is responsible for the provision of emergency health services to the community and is committed to achieving continuous quality improvement in client service within a Quality Management Framework. The emergency physicians are responsible for delivery of "best practice" emergency care to all patients with acute illness or trauma.

Upon arrival in the ED, people typically undergo a brief triage, or sorting, interview to help determine the nature and severity of their illness. Individuals with serious illnesses are then seen by a physician more rapidly than those with less severe symptoms or injuries. After initial assessment and treatment, patients are observed in the ED, admitted to the hospital, or discharged.
