Introduction
Down Syndrome is one of the most common chromosomal abnormalities, with complex and varied symptoms including short stature, growth delay, intellectual disability, thyroid disease, congenital heart disease, epilepsy, or central nervous system abnormalities. In order to improve the care for patients with Down Syndrome, the Department of Medical Genetics at National Taiwan University Hospital has integrated a cross-disciplinary medical team to establish the "Down Syndrome Integrated Clinic" since November 18, 2013, providing innovative and integrated personalized healthcare services.
The "Down Syndrome Integrated Clinic" aims to reduce the fatigue of patients seeking multiple medical consultations, simplify the time needed for patients to seek medical treatment, and improve the quality of medical care for patients with Down Syndrome. For Down Syndrome patients, the clinic provides integrated medical resources while reducing the cost of medical treatment. Patients only need to register once to receive the complete services of a cross-disciplinary medical team led by a chief physician. Patients with catastrophic illness certificates only need to pay a registration fee once (NTD 100)!
The "Down Syndrome Integrated Clinic" currently adopts a physician appointment system. If the patient has not received treatment in the hospital, please contact Ms. Chen Nai-qi, a genetic counselor, to arrange for an appointment at the integrated clinic.
