About us
Orthopedic surgery, also known as orthopedics, has a long and rich history. The field of orthopedics has evolvedrapidly and seen many breakthroughs in the past few decades thanks to advances made in surgical techniques and instruments, anesthesiology, and biomechanical engineering. Since the scope of orthopedic care has expandedsignificantly, in most health institutions orthopedic surgery is not listed as a subdivision in general surgery, but forms a department in itself. The National Taiwan University Hospital’s department of Orthopedic Surgery was established in 1987. Nowadays we manage a wide variety of diseases and serve an ever-increasing number of patients. As an academic teaching center, we also actively participate in cutting-edge research and provide resident education to upcoming surgeons interested in pursuing a care in orthopedics.
Our department consists of six subspecialities staffed by twenty attending surgeons. Our team also includes twenty-six residents and eleven physician assistants, plus a dedicated nursing staff well-versed in orthopedic car e. We pride ourselves in constantly updating our knowledge and improving our surgical prowess . In addition, we collaborate closely with the Department of Physical Therapy to provide our patients timely in-hospital rehabilitation, followed by outpatient sessions, to ensure a speedy functional recovery. With our multi-disciplinary team delivering comprehensive care, we aim to help patients achieve the best possible outcome.
